Backlight – Tehdas 108
Vuoden 2014 Backlight esittelee ensimmäistä kertaa Nokian historiallisen Tehdassaaren uuden mediataiteen näyttämönä. Kuvataiteilijat Katri Mononen ja Jarno Vesala ovat kuratoineet Bertel Strömmerin suunnittelemaan Nokiayhtiön vanhaan konepajaan mediateosten kokonaisuuden kuudelta taiteilijalta. Näyttelyn teoksissa on eräänlaista avaruudellista leijuntaa. Sitä löytyy niin ääniraidoilta, visuaalisista ratkaisuista kuin ihmiskuvauksestakin. Ihminen on vieraantunut lajitoveristaan. Hän on hukannut pesäkolonsa. Tehdas 108:n akustiikka antaa teosten ääniraidoille oman karhean lisänsä. Vanhan salin hämärässä sähköinen kohina, toisteinen kilke tai pelkkä tuuli mikrofonissa toistuvat erityisellä tavalla.
Backlight – Tehdas 108 Culture Factory
In the year 2014, Backlight represents the historical Tehdassaari Factory Island for the first time as a stagefor media art. Inside of the robust walls of the former machine workshop of Nokia company, visual artists Katri Mononen and Jarno Vesala have curated a compilation of media art works by six different artists. The exhibition generates an impression of spaceous floating, a theme which recurs in the soundtracks visual appearances as well as portraits. Humans have become estranged to one another. They have lostthe way to their burrow. The unique acoustics of Tehdas 108 Culture Factory spice up the soundtracks ofthe artworks. In the gloom of the old machine hall electric noise, repetitive jingle or a mere wind in themicrophone find a unique echo.
